Misty Mountains
Painting with Jane
Day 1

So I haven't been painting much and was thinking about doing some smaller, less intense, paintings to get back in the groove. I had my eye on Carole Marine's book "Daily Painting". Then Jane announced that she read this book and was heading her tutorials in that direction. Perfect!  I bought the book on Amazon.  It arrived Aug 14 and in less than 2 weeks I had read it.

On Sept 1, Jane posted her first video, so late that night I started and finished the first sometime around 1:30-2:00 am on Sept 2.  Below is Misty Mountains, my 1st daily painting with Jane.

BAQ #5

Geisha

The Quest for BAQ #5 was Geisha inspire.  This was tougher than I thought it would be.  I was doing ok until I left my paint mixes out and they dried.  I didn't quite get the same mix after so ended up re-painting the face I had already done.  Overall, still pretty happy but know that it could be better.

BAQ # 4

Galactic Soul

As soon as I saw the pic of our next quest, I knew it would be quite involved.  Painting an underwater scene that included goldfish and air bubbles, with a galaxy going on above, and then a face as well.  It took me a while to get started but i did and proud to be finished.  This one required practice in my journal before committing to canvas, or canvas board.

My first Realistic Eye Drawings

This week was learning eyes.  Yesterday a front on version, and today a side version.  I'm pretty happy with how these turned out.

Learning to draw a Believe Face
As mentioned in my last post, my learning to draw was put aside so I could paint more.  Then The Art Sherpa, Cinnamon Cooney, comes along with a Big Art Quest for 2017 that incorporates learning to draw faces and painting.  I am concerned that I will not keep up each week or get in as much practice as I'd like, but I will keep plugging away at it, at my own pace.  The first quest was to draw a "Believe" face.  Basically, it just drawing a face based on proportions and not making it like anyone in particular.  My first attempt left a lot to be desired.  It was late and I was tired and but wanted to just jump in and not out it off so not a lot of effort was applied.  The 2nd one, I did try a little harder, but do need more practice.  Still, I'm proud, partly just because I am doing it.

My First Drawings

I had decided in late November or early December that I would like to learn how to draw.  I had watched a few You Tube Tutorials and sketched a sphere and cylinder with shading.  Pretty basic stuff.  I did a simple vase on my own.  I was pretty happy with these and then re-focused on painting so the drawing was put off to the side a bit.

Stormy Sunset

This was done from a You Tube Tutorial by The Art Sherpa, Cinnamon Cooney.  I had do redo the underpainting top section a couple of times and another after the clouds were in. I spent quite a few hours on this one but did enjoy the process.

I just finished another You Tube tutorial. This one is by Angela Anderson and used a pallet knife for the waves and clouds.  This was my first time using the pallet knife for painting.  It was a little hard to get used to in the beginning but felt more comfortable near the end.

You Tube tutorial by Angela Anderson. This was a 2 1/2 hr video that took me many, many hours to complete. Had to re-do some areas a couple of times. Took somewhere around 15-20 hours over 3 weeks, I lost track. Will probably do it again but approach it differently.

A Nice Pair

Here is my painting

Here is the photo I used to paint from

This is the first painting I did using a photo and no tutorial.  I'm quite pleased with it.  That's an understatement.  I'm amazed with myself.

The photo was taken by Ruth Archer and shared on "Paint My Photo" for people to use as inspiration.  Here is a link to the image.   https://pmp-art.com/ruth/gallery/119896/a-nice-pair

My New Studio Set up

Last week I bought an easel and needed a space for it, other than the living room.  So I got to work and set up a studio. Finished it last weekend.

This room in the basement was intended to be a kitchenette but wasn't being used.  I moved my scrapbook supplies out of storage and my painting supplies out of the dining room.

This space sure beats painting at the dining room table.
