September came and off to Grade 1 he went. He loved it but I was prepared for the worst, the weeks went by, and yet he still loved it. In October he had a rough week, I thought perhaps the novelty of Grade 1 was wearing off. Than he came around and surprised his teacher and relieved me.
TJ has had sort of a love affair with Grade 1 and all it's special privliges (like skating, field trips, etc.) and I finally thought we were set and all would be ok.
...Then, on Friday, as we were parking our van after finishing our work day, TJ piped up and said..."I wish I were in Kindergarten, you don't have to do so much work in Kindergarten." CRASH! My heart sank a little. I'm not sure what brought this on and all he says is that there's to much work in Grade 1. I'm not sure if things got stepped up a bit at school, or if something happened, or, if he just had a realization. I suspect it might have something to do with his best bud Matthew having been away in Cuba. Maybe or maybe not. I do know though that sometimes friendship at work can sure make the work much more bearable, so the same should hold true for school...right! Anyway, Matthew is back and TJ is happy and so am I.
Now here's a little peek at remembering Kindergrten...
